This is not our normal post. It’s two things I wanted to share with you that I came across this week.
Our monthly posts will be hitting your inbox at the end of the month as normal :)
Two things from this week:
#1 - Back to the future
I’m in shock right now. I found an old blog post from March 17, 2017 called “A.I., Me, and You” which eerily describe our current world with the rise of OpenAI. I wrote it during Philosophy grad school. Here’s an excerpt:
“Imagine a world where AIs are doing all the technical work like brain and spinal surgery, all the industrial work ranging from cars to furniture manufacturing, and service jobs that are being currently being done by Subway employees or the hotel cleaner.
The capability of AIs in this world doesn’t end there either. There are AIs which exist solely for the purpose of creating original art, comparable to geniuses like Picasso or da Vinci. There are also AIs who create original music. Even within sports there are no longer referees or umpires, their jobs are all done by AIs.
Further, our law enforcements are all AIs; they patrol our streets and our neighbourhoods. These AIs cops can assess situations and deem them as threats or friendly.”
I go on to say that the most valuable/expensive things will be anything“100% human-made.” Similar to how we tag clothes with 100% cotton, 80% cotton etc.
Think “100% wine”, “100% human-made dining tables”, “100% human-harvested crops”, or “70% human-made suits”.
It’s strange thinking about it but I believe we’re headed in that direction. Because we are in the middle of mass open access AI with things like Midjourney, ChatGPT, Agent AI, Robot cops in NYC etc.
AI can create art in the style of any artists in the world. AI can create music in the voice of any famous musician. AI can assist in write code. AI can answer legal or medical questions. AI can create tasks for itself to complete.
If you want to the old blog, hit reply and I’ll send the link.
#2 - A new place for share ideas
I just published my first note on Substack Notes, and would love for you to join me there!
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. Hit reply and let me know what I should write about?
One of you guys already suggested book recommendations and reviews. I’ll be dropping some book recs on Notes later this week.
I plan to use it for things that don’t fit in the newsletter, like work-in-progress or quick questions.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app.
As a subscriber to Becoming Antifragile with I. J., you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own.
I hope this becomes a space where every reader of Becoming Antifragile with I. J. can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
