Injuries are bound to happen
“It is precious to me, though I buy it with great pain.” - Isildur
Physical pain is a reminder that it is better to get injured striving after improvement than to avoid injury by sitting comfortably at home.
I received a 2nd-grade tear on my lateral ligament in my left ankle during training. The pain gradually increased over the proceeding hours. I was unable to place weight on my left leg for the following few days. My ankle is still swollen.
But injuries are guaranteed the longer you train. There's no possible way to avoid injuries if you compete, train hard or train at all. (Note: getting injured is not a badge of honour neither is it something to be afraid of)
But often the pain resulting from an injury is a reminder that on our journey to progress/improvement we will get hurt.
In the grand scheme of things, my ankle injury will not deter me from further training in the future. If anything, it fuels my desire to train smarter and better when I return on the mats.
