If you’re new around here, welcome to Wisdom Wednesdays - where I share wisdom from history’s greatest minds.
Bruce Lee (Lee Jun-Fan) was a Hong Kong-American martial artist, actor, filmmaker, and philosopher. Lee was the founder of Jeet Kune Do - Way of the Intercepting Fist - and is regarded as one of the most influential martial artists in history.
Lee crossed train in Judo, Catch-wrestling, Taekwondo, Boxing, and Jiu-jitsu. He used his martial arts to teach his philosophy.
Lee saw himself first as a philosopher and then as a martial artist. Today we’re looking at ‘The Tao of Jeet Kun Do’.
Lessons from Bruce Lee
Observe what is with undivided awareness.
Our egos are barriers to enlightenment. The consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to the proper execution of all physical action
To see reality we must shed our prejudices. If you want to understand the truth in martial arts, to see any opponent clearly, you must throw away the notion of styles or schools, prejudices, likes and dislikes, and so forth. Then, your mind will cease all conflict and come to rest. In this silence, you will see totally and freshly.
Empty your cup so that it may be filled; become devoid to gain totality.
True art transports us to the Infinite. Art is never decoration or embellishment; instead, it is a work of enlightenment. Art, in other words, is a technique for acquiring liberty.
Jeet Kune Do is the enlightenment. It is a way of life, a movement toward willpower and control, though it ought to be enlightenment by intuition.
We must be detached from the fruits of our actions to gain freedom. The point is the doing of them rather than the accomplishments. There is no actor but the action; there is no experiencer but the experience.
By the way, commissions for 2025 are open for icons, symbolic or sacred art, murals and frescos. So, head over to ikranrinmakan.com if you’re interested.
Till next week,
Peace!
